Idea: Roundtable of Services / Host Night
Submitted by: Sr. Loretta Guevarra, SA
In the California Coastal Counties (Paso Robles, Templeton, San Miguel and San Luis Obispo area), we celebrate each day of the Week of Prayer with a service making it a true Week of Prayer.
Each day's service is hosted by a different area church and is followed by a social hour so that after everyone prays together they can meet each other. This is a great way to foster unity in your community.
I started seven or eight years ago, using a grassroots approach. I met with the pastors at the local churches and asked them to host a service during one day of the Week of Prayer. We are now up to 20 churches participating in the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. Now we pair up participating churches who then work together to set up their host night.
This does take some planning. I start every Fall going around to the churches and trying to add new ones. Then in November, we have a meeting with all the ministers and decide who will host which night. We use materials ordered from GEII and hang the posters all over so people know about the events. The effort is well worth it and truly gets to the heart of a Week of Prayer.
