Idea: Progressive Dinner Party

Submitted by: Fr. Dan Callahan, SA

In Hornell, (the smallest registered city in N.Y.) where I live and work most of the week, as a hospital administrator, grass roots ecumenism is also an ordinary part of the local culture. Every denomination in town participates in Holy Week celebrations of either a Good Friday Cross walk,(a kind of street stations of the cross) or an Easter Sunday sunrise service in which each Church sends participating delegates and all persons of every faith tradition are invited to attend.

During the week of prayer for Christian Unity there is an annual progressive dinner party that utilizes the Week of Prayer theme and the materials that are circulated from Graymoor. It began this year with an appetizer served in the Catholic Church hall, after a brief prayer in St. Ann's Church. This was followed by the salad and soup course at the Episcopal Church. The Presbyterian Church hosted the main meal and desert was hosted at the Baptist church.
