Franciscan Friars of the Atonement to Inaugurate 2007 Week of Prayer for Christian Unity with Evening Prayer Service
Garrison, NY, January 1, 2007
Dr. Mark S. Massa, SJ, co-director of the Francis and Ann Curran Center for American Catholic Studies at Fordham University, will speak at the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement's Evening Prayer service on January 17, 2007 at 7:30pm in Little Flower Chapel to inaugurate the 2007 Week of Prayer for Christian Unity.
Begun at Graymoor in 1908 as the Church Unity Octave, the Week of Prayer is now observed worldwide January 18 - 25. During this week, Christians are invited to pray together "that all may be one ... that the world may believe" (Jn.17:21).
The Franciscan Friars of the Atonement are a Roman Catholic religious order of brothers and priests founded in 1898 by Father Paul Wattson. Their worldwide ministries include Christian unity; interfaith dialogue among Christians, Jews, Muslims, and Buddhists; serving the homeless and those suffering from alcoholism, drug addictions, and HIV/AIDS; preaching the gospel in parishes around the world, and offering respite and hope to those in need of spiritual renewal.
