Franciscan Friars of the Atonement Host 9th Annual Ecumenical Lecture & Concert at Centro Pro Unione
Rome, Italy, December 5, 2006
Well-known ecumenist Gillian Kingston, President of the Irish Council of Churches and Co-Chair of the Irish Inter-Church Meeting, will speak on Methodist-Roman Catholic Relations at the ninth annual Fr. Paul Wattson and Mother Lurana White Conference at the Centro Pro Unione on Thursday, December 14 at 6PM. The topic of her lecture will be "Methodist-Roman Catholic Relations: Strengthening Each Other's Hand in God".
"We're very pleased to have Mrs. Kingston focus on the similarities between Methodist and Roman Catholics. Too often I think we focus on what divides us. Bringing unity and reconciliation is at the heart of the Society of the Atonement's mission. It's what our founders, Father Paul and Mother Lurana, worked very diligently for and why we hold these conferences each year in their honor,” said the V. Rev. James F. Puglisi, Director of the Centro Pro Unione and Minister General of the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement.
Following Mrs. Kingston's talk, the Solisti dell'Accademia directed by Serguej Diatchenko will perform selections from Beethoven, Prokofiev, Paganini and Waxman. The conference is free and open to the public.
Located at Via Santa Maria dell'Anima, 30, 1st floor, the Centro Pro Unione is an ecumenical and research center in Rome operated by the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement, a religious order of brothers and priests founded in 1898 by Father Paul Wattson whose worldwide ministries include Christian unity; interfaith dialogue; serving the homeless and those suffering from alcoholism, drug addictions, and HIV/AIDS; preaching the gospel in parishes around the world, and offering respite and hope to those in need of spiritual renewal.
