Hymn Competition Kicks Off Celebrations for 100 Years of Prayer for Unity

September 2006: In anticipation of the 100th anniversary of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity in 2008, the Franciscan Friars of Atonement and the National Association of Pastoral Musicians are sponsoring a national hymn competition with the appropriate theme ‘That All May Be One’ from the Book of John. The winning hymns will be debuted at the national convention of pastoral musicians and then sung during events scheduled for the centennial celebration. Fifteen hundred dollars will be awarded to the composer of a new hymn and $1,000 to the writer of a new text for an already-familiar melody. This competition was the brainchild of Fr. James Gardiner, SA and Michael McMahon, President of the National Association of Pastoral Musicians. Deadline for submission is November 30, 2006.
